Comau asked Loson to optimize its exoskeleton for logistics operators. This is a wearable mechanical component that aims to distribute the weight load on the body more evenly so that heavy objects can be lifted without tiring the arms or compromising the operator’s health.

Comau asked Loson for a project with a design-to-cost mode and very tight cost parameters. The goal was to integrate with the existing powertrain by replacing existing aluminum components with composite ones to improve the weight and reduce the cost of the final product.

Loson focused on re-designing the critical central component, to which all mechanical elements are attached, which is responsible for distributing the load evenly along the operator’s spine.

To meet the stringent cost objectives, we devised a boxed frame by gluing together 2 laminated components. The geometric shape made the component strong and this solution allowed us to produce a product with a tubular’s features in an economic way.
